State Rep DeGroot Releases Statement Regarding Passing of Wildwood Councilman Ray Manton

May 31, 2019

Yesterday was Ray Manton's memorial service at Holy Cross Cemetery.  It was a moving tribute to a man who has given so much to his family and community.  The service was well attended including a police escort to Holy Cross.

State Representative has released the following statement regarding Mr. Manton:

"Earlier last week, Rep. DeGroot learned that Wildwood councilman Ray Manton passed away. Rep. DeGroot will remember Manton as a dedicated public servant. The two worked together on a number of road infrastructure issues in the past years. The following is an excerpt from his obituary:

Raymond Manton was an extraordinary man of character—a deeply devoted family man, brilliant mind, successful professional, committed councilman with unquestionable integrity. A proud native of Boston, Massachusetts, Raymond relocated to Wildwood in 1992 as a result of a professional promotion within ExxonMobil Corporation. In 2003, he retired from ExxonMobil after an illustrious 38-year career with the company.

"A lifelong learner and avid reader, Ray was committed to continuous learning and relentlessly instilled the importance of education in his children and grandchildren. Always one to lead by example, Ray himself spent nine years pursuing his college degree at Northeastern University (Boston) while working full-time and raising his young family. Ray also proudly served his country in the United States Army.

"Never one to sit idly in retirement, Ray found tremendous satisfaction in his work as Wildwood City Councilman (Ward 2) in addition to the numerous other committees on which he served. Despite his many commitments, Ray always made time to mentor youth and young professionals, both formally and informally. One of his single greatest joys was knowing that he had a positive impact on the lives he touched."
