Pandemic Response Simulation was Held in New York on October 15; Attendees included American and Chinese health officials and a former US Deputy CIA Director.

If things are to occur, they must happen sometime.

But it is a hauntingly strange coincidence that the World Economic Forum (WEF) hosted a global pandemic simulation in New York with high ranking American and Chinese government officials just one month prior to the first alleged Covid-19 case in China.  (The Guardian is reporting that,The South China Morning  Post, has revealed that unpublished Chinese government documents show the first diagnosed case was November 17.)

According to an October 15th, WEF news release (dateline- Geneva Switzerland) the Director-General of the Chinese Center for Public Health Services participated in gaming out responses to a hypothetical global pandemic on October 18th.  The event was held in New York City.

The release stated that, "the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will host Event 201: a high-level simulation exercise for pandemic preparedness and response, in New York, USA, on Friday 18 October, 08.45-12.30EDT."

Attendees included a former Deputy Director of the CIA, Avril Haines, George Gao, Director-General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control, and Stephen Redd, a Deputy Director for Public Health Services and Implementation Science of the US CDC.

According to the press release, the simulation would, "bring together business, government, security and public health leaders to address hypothetical global pandemic scenario." It also stated that the event would feature a live virtual experience "to engage stakeholders worldwide and members of the public in a meaningful conversation of difficult high-level policy choices that could arise in the midst of a severe pandemic."

Participants in the live simulation reportedly included:

George Gao, Director General, Chinese Center for Disease Control;

Latoya Abbott, Risk Management/Global Senior Director Occupational Health Services, Marriott International;

Stan Bergman, Chairman and CEO, Henry Schein;

Sofia Borges, Senior Vice President, UN Foundation;

Chris Elias, President, Global Development division, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation;

Tim Evans, Former Senior Director of Health, World Bank Group;

Avril Haines, Former Deputy Director, Central Intelligence Agency; Former Deputy National Security Advisor;

Jane Halton, Board member, ANZ Bank; Former Secretary of Finance and Former Secretary of Health, Australia;

Mathew Harrington, Global President and Chief Operations Officer, Edelman;

Martin Knuchel, Head of Crisis, Emergency and Business Continuity Management, Lufthansa Group Airlines;

Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control;

Eduardo Martinez, President, The UPS Foundation;

Stephen Redd, Deputy Director for Public Health Service and Implementation Science, US CDC;

Paul Stoffles, M.D., Vice Chair of the Executive Committee and Chief Scientific Officer, Johnson & Johnson;

Hasti Taghi, Vice President and Executive Advisor, NBCUniversal Media;

Lavan Thiru, Chief Representative, Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Recently WEF has released a statement regarding "event 201", clarifying that the exercise was not a prediction of the recent  pandemic.

Obviously the timing of event 201 with so many international public policy officials gaming a hypothetical pandemic just weeks prior to the first Covid-19 case in China has made such a statement necessary. It may be found here.
